About Energy and Emissions

The City of Richmond is committed to addressing climate disruption and increasing the energy security of our community.  The City’s 2041 Official Community Plan establishes aggressive, but achievable, targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 33 per cent by 2020 below 2007 levels, and 80 per cent by 2050.  Likewise, Council has endorsed a goal to reduce energy use 10% below 2007 levels by 2020.

These goals can be realized while creating economic opportunity, reducing our community members’ spending on energy, and building a healthier, more liveable city.  The City of Richmond is pursuing energy and emissions reductions in a variety of ways:
