Winter & Severe Weather Response

Garbage and Recycling Pick Up

Garbage and Recycling Services During Severe Winter Weather
The City endeavours to maintain continuity in providing garbage and recycling services during all weather conditions. However, snow and/or ice accumulations can impact our service due to road conditions. (For regular pick-up schedules see Collection Schedule).

Garbage Collection Service
First priority is given to collection of garbage. If your garbage is not collected by 7:00 p.m. on your regular pick up day, please leave it at curbside or ensure it is placed at curbside by 8:00 a.m. the following day for collection. In some instances, collection could occur on a subsequent day. Therefore, you should ensure your garbage is placed at curbside available for collection by our crews. In some situations where access is particularly difficult (e.g., some cul-de-sacs), it may be necessary to defer garbage collection until the following week, or when road conditions permit collection to occur.

Recycling Collection Service

Recycling collection is more impacted by snow and ice accumulation due to the lighter nature of the collection vehicles. If your recycling is not collected by 7:00 p.m. on your regular pick up day, please leave it at curbside for collection on the following day. If your recycling is not collected by the end of the day following your normally scheduled pick up day, please hold your items for collection for the next regular pick up day, or when road conditions permit.

Yard Trimmings and Food Scraps Collection Service
Yard trimmings and food scraps collection service may be suspended where there are significant accumulations of snow or ice on residential streets. Please check the advisory section for up-to-date information. Normal collection of yard and garden trimmings will resume the following week, or when road conditions have sufficiently improved to allow collection to take place.

Recyclables and yard trimmings can be delivered to the City's Recycling Depot, located at 5555 Lynas Lane, open 9:00 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. from Wednesday to Sunday (closed on statutory holidays).

Check the garbage and recycling Collection Schedules page for more information.
