18 April 2017
Shortly after 8:00 p.m. on April 17, 2017, Richmond RCMP officers responded to the area near Cambie Road and Dallyn Road. A 28-year-old female reported she had allegedly been assaulted by a male suspect and fled to a house in the vicinity to contact police.
The suspect was quickly tracked to a house in the 11000 block of Cambie Road.
A full contingent of Richmond RCMP officers surrounded the house. The police were acting on information that the suspect had a rifle in his possession and allegedly made threats against the victim and other members of her family. Multiple attempts by police to have the suspect surrender peacefully were unsuccessful.
Tactical officers from the LMD ERT (Emergency Response Team) were then deployed. The ERT located the suspect hiding in the house after distraction devices were utilized. Shortly before 2:00 a.m. on April 18, 2017, a 31-year-old male was taken into custody. The police are continuing their investigating and charges are pending. The suspect is known to police.
