RCMP Horse and Rider

The Richmond RCMP is hoping that someone will recognize a suspect in a vehicle theft that occurred on April 3, 2017 just after 1:00 a.m. in the morning.

A 28-year-old male was leaving a business in the 8800 block of River Road when the suspect approached him and proceeded to engage in small talk. This resulted in the suspect asking for a ride into downtown Richmond. The driver agreed and drove him to the area of No. 3 Road and Cambie Road where the suspect allegedly threatened the driver, ordered him out of the vehicle, and proceeded to steal his vehicle - a 2016 black Kia Optima with Alberta licence plates.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian male
  • 185 cm (6’ 1”) tall
  • 91 kg (200 Lbs), medium build
  • 20-30 years of age
  • Beard with square jaw line
  • Last seen wearing a black Peacoat wool jacket
  • Short dark hair trimmed neatly on sides and back

“By releasing this security footage, we hope that someone will recognize this suspect by his distinctive attire and grooming. Please contact us if it does. Your information may help us bring him to justice,” says Corporal Dennis Hwang.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Constable Sonny Virk of the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212, by email at or anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
