Emergency Response

Water Rescue

River PilonsRichmond is an Island City, encircled for over 30 miles by the Fraser River and containing many sloughs, ditches and ponds. Occasionally, people put themselves and others at risk in these waters either through accident or misadventure.

All Richmond Fire-Rescue personnel are certified Swift Water Rescue Technicians - Level 1 minimum. We are equipped to safely accomplish surface water rescues and other types of water-related emergencies such as boating mishaps and motor vehicle accidents involving water zones.

We are also available to assist the Coast Guard and Vancouver International Airport for any aircraft-related incidents on the tidal flats.

All Richmond Fire-Rescue personnel have regularly scheduled training sessions to maintain the skills needed to provide this valuable service to the citizens of Richmond.
