Sports and Community Events Services provides leadership and support for sport organizations, community groups, non-profit agencies and for profit promoters involved in hosting outdoor activities, tournaments, festivals and events in Richmond. This includes the coordination of all requests to use School Board playing fields and gyms and City-owned parks and other properties.

Sports Services staff work in consultation with the Richmond Sports Council and community sports groups to assist with the coordination of services and space required for sporting events.

Richmond Sports Wall of Fame
2015 Sports Wall of Fame Inductees

Sixteen extraordinary athletes, coaches, teams and builders were officially inducted in the new Richmond Sports Wall of Fame, which was officially unveiled November 21, 2015. The inaugural induction ceremony drew a standing room only crowd to the Wall of Fame area.

The first 16 inductees to the Richmond Sport Wall of Fame are:


  • Pasha Bains: Acclaimed basketball player, founder of Drive Basketball
  • Robert Dixon: Javelin Gold medallist at the 1934 British Empire Games, died in military service in World War II
  • Ray Murao National: kendo champion and now head instructor of the Steveston Kendo Club
  • Randy Samuel: 82 caps for Canadian men’s soccer team, played professionally in Europe and Canada
  • Bobby Singh: Only professional football player to win Super bowl, Grey Cup and XFL championships
  • Ronald Williams: three time BC Derby winning jockey, rode 546 winners
  • Walter Wu: Won 14 Paralympic swimming medals


  • Lance Carey: Olympian, field hockey coach and builder
  • Diane Clement: Co-founder of Richmond Kajaks, Chef on the Run author
  • Doug Clement: Co-founder of Richmond Kajaks, sports medicine doctor
  • Richard Collier: Long-time Richmond Kajaks throws coach
  • Bill Disbrow: Legendary Richmond Colt basketball coach for 34 years


  • Tony Shaw: International table tennis umpire and referee


  • 1988 Richmond Colts: BC boys basketball provincial champions
  • Richmond Milkmaids: Ground-breaking women’s lacrosse team
  • Richmond Rockets FC: 1979 U-18 national soccer champions

Nominate an Athlete, Builder, Coach, Official, Pioneer, Special Achievement or Team
The Richmond Sports Wall of Fame is an opportunity to celebrate the history of sport in Richmond by providing a focal point for the community to recognize the achievements of past athletes, teams, builders and officials of sport in Richmond.  The Wall of Fame’s prominent location in the Richmond Olympic Oval will ensure appropriate recognition for Richmond’s sporting history.

Endorsed by Council in November 2010, the process of developing the Richmond Sport for Life Strategy (2010-2015) was a collaborative effort between the City and a range of agencies and community organizations involved in the delivery of sports programs and services in Richmond.
