Richmond urges art enthusiasts to join public art selection panels

Sky Dam 2The City of Richmond is seeking art professionals and interested community members to participate in Public Art Program selection panels to review future public art projects in the City. The call is open to anyone living in Metro Vancouver and the deadline to apply is Friday, June 24, 2016 at 4:00 p.m.* People with a wide range of experience and backgrounds will be selected for the pool, from which panels will be organized for each public art project over the next two years.

“In Richmond, public art is selected through an arms-length process. By incorporating professional advice and input from the community, both the quality of artworks and their relevance to the community are ensured,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “Anyone who has an interest in the public art process or wishes they had a chance to provide input in its selection, is invited to get involved. Now is your chance to contribute to the livability and cultural vibrancy of Richmond.”

Through Public Art, a community can explore ideas, affirm identity, express historical and cultural spirit, and create dialogue. The Richmond Public Art Program, endorsed by City Council on June 23, 1997, now boasts more than 100 public artworks throughout the City.
