Minoru Chapel Opera’s fall series announced

27 September 2016

Minoru Chapel will once again open its doors to music lovers this fall with a stellar line up of operatic performances. The Minoru Chapel Opera Series will feature intimate performances of classic opera, operetta and choral music at one of Richmond’s most beloved heritage sites.

The series kicks off with a star-studded celebration of opera’s leading ladies in Prima Donna: A Celebration of Women in Opera on Wednesday, October 5 at both 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. This one-of-a-kind concert by Opera Mariposa will include a selection of work performed by a group of multi award-winning sopranos – many with unique ties to Richmond. The performance will include highlights from Tosca, La Bohème, The Marriage of Figaro, The Tales of Hoffmann as well as a sneak preview of the upcoming Canadian opera Alma, which will make its world premiere June 2017.

The Minoru Chapel Opera Series takes place on the first Wednesdays of October, November and December. All events will be held at Minoru Chapel, located at 6540 Gilbert Road (beside the Gateway Theatre) at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Seating is limited and tickets can be purchased at the door or, as recommended, in advance by calling 604-276-4300. Admission is $20 for adults, $18 for students and seniors.
The second and third instalments in the Minoru Chapel Opera Series are Burnaby Lyric Opera’s Die Walküre on Wednesday, November 2 and a holiday-inspired performance by City Opera Vancouver on Wednesday, December 7.

Opera Mariposa is a Vancouver-based company dedicated to creating a stage for emerging talent and showcasing promising performers. They offer a diverse program of gala concerts, original shows, charity benefits and fully staged opera and musical productions – all while pursuing the highest standards of musical excellence.
