Branscombe House is a recently restored Edwardian style structure located at 4900 Steveston Hwy at a prominent intersection in the residential area of Steveston.  BranscombeExteriorOne of the earliest homes built in Steveston, the house is significant for its historical association to the development of Steveston, both as a residential building and through its connection to the Branscombe family’s general store located in downtown Steveston. It reflects the pattern of commercial and related residential development that occurred early in Steveston’s history.

Owned and operated by the City of Richmond, Branscombe House has many typical design features that characterize Edwardian homes. The recent restoration has resulted in two separate interior spaces:

  • Branscombe House Suite PhotosDownstairs is a meeting/reception space with washroom and catering kitchen available for public and private events on a rental basis.  This space will be managed by the Rentals Office.  More information on rentals can be found here.
  • Upstairs, there is a self-contained, 2-bedroom suite with kitchen, living room and bathroom (there is no laundry). This private space will be the live/work home of the Branscombe House artists in residence.

Both upstairs and downstairs spaces share wireless internet and a common foyer entrance. The artist resident and rental clients will both be expected to be respectful re: sound issues. Musicians will not play amplified music. Companion(s) are permitted to reside with the artist, as are older children. No pets are allowed.

The exterior of the house includes a shed veranda, front landscape with trees and small parking area with public washroom at the back. The house is situated on a bus route and a major, recently built greenway bicycle/pedestrian route along a former railway corridor. There are plans for a community garden in the immediate vicinity as well.

Proposals may include temporary installations, exhibitions and events inside and/or on the property.

Branscombe house is located across the street from O’Hare’s Pub and is a 20-min. walk or three-min. drive to Steveston Village.
